About - Hunting & Shooting

The Ruger P345 pistol.... not so long ago, I didn't even know it existed. Then I ran across one for sale and started doing some research. In the end, I bought the gun, and I'm glad I did. It represents a great improvement over Ruger's previous P-series pistols, and it sure feels good in my hand...

Being comfortable at a shooting range or other loud location while saving your hearing and being able to hear normal conversation is always nice. These ear plugs promise exactly that, without electronics... read the review to find out if they live up to their claims.

If you've been paying attention, you've been seeing the BoreSnake gun cleaner thingamabob for years. It's a length of braided rope with embedded brushes and a weighted string for pulling it through a gun's barrel. It does a pretty good job, but don't throw away your cleaning rod...

It seems like not so long ago now, but it's been a dozen years since the day I took a nice young whitetail buck with a cap & ball black powder revolving rifle. Known as the "Cattleman's Carbine" by the folks who made the gun (Uberti), it's about as handy a little popper as there is. It was an exciting morning, full of buck grunts, and deer chases, and adrenaline, and it ended with one of the best moments ever.

Walther P38 9mm Semi-Auto Pistol

Back in its day (around World War 2), this German semi-auto pistol was a unique creation, and the fact that this model was made for decades afterward is a testament to its design.

I remember some guys swooning over a new semi-auto pistol in the early 1990s. They were enraptured by the decock lever, and thought it was so wonderful and innovative. They were clueless to the fact that the decock lever was already more than 50 years old by then, and had always been on the P38.

Deer season will soon be here again. While we're getting psyched up and making other preparations, we should also strive to learn as much as we can about our quarry. For anyone wise enough to learn from someone else's experience, this article can be a big help.

I've spent most of my life in the woods and have hunted deer for 28 years now, and have had to track a few along the way. This article contains some good pointers, revised with time and increased experience, that might just make the difference between venison in your freezer or going home empty-handed.

This question from a reader led to a useful article, which I hope will be helpful to lots of folks. Accurizing is almost an art, and you should really change just one thing at a time, trying it after each change, until you get what you're after.

Some years ago, I picked up my first 1911-style pistol. It had supposedly been stolen from the seller, who then ransomed it back from "the street." To that tale, I say "whatever," but I was sure happy to get the gun.<P>

It's a smaller version of the old original Colt 1911, and it's a good one. Do I have better pistols than this one? Yep. But only a 1911 feels like a 1911.
